As summer vacations end, many residents returning to the UAE are facing high airfares for direct flights. To counter these costs, some are opting for connecting flights with layovers in other countries, despite the increased travel time. For example, a Canadian national living in JVC is saving Dh1,200 per person by choosing a connecting flight from Montreal to Dubai with layovers in Europe. The total savings for his family amount to approximately Dh6,000.

Schools in the UAE are set to reopen on August 26, putting pressure on families to secure flights quickly. With direct flight prices skyrocketing, many are choosing connecting flights or flights to neighboring countries as a more affordable option. One businessman returning to Dubai from Mangalore found that the steep costs for a direct flight could be nearly halved by opting for a connecting flight via Muscat. This cost-saving measure allows him to travel with his large family of nine and save over 70% on the journey.

In addition to the financial savings, the businessman taking a stopover in Muscat plans to spend quality time with his brother’s family before continuing the journey by car to Dubai. This break in the journey not only saves money but also allows for valuable family bonding time. The decision to break up the journey with a stopover highlights the benefits of connecting flights in terms of cost savings and quality family time.

By choosing connecting flights with layovers in Europe or neighboring countries, travelers are able to significantly reduce their airfare expenses while adding a unique aspect to their journey. Despite the longer travel time, many view the layovers as a refreshing break during their journey, providing an opportunity to explore a new destination or spend time with family. For families with multiple members, the cost savings from choosing connecting flights can make a significant impact on their overall travel expenses.

Returning residents facing high airfares for direct flights to the UAE are looking at alternative options, such as connecting flights with layovers in other countries, to save on costs. This trend is expected to continue as families prioritize cost-effective travel solutions. By utilizing connecting flights and stopovers strategically, travelers can make the most of their journey back to the UAE, both financially and experientially. As the demand for affordable travel options increases, connecting flights are becoming a popular choice for residents returning to the UAE after the summer break.
