MP Khalid Buanq has recently commended the Bahraini Cabinet’s decision to eliminate a rule that previously prevented spouses from benefiting from housing services if they inherited property. In doing so, he has described this move as a significant step towards addressing housing concerns in the country, reflecting the commitment of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to prioritize the needs of Bahraini citizens. The decision is seen as a positive development in ensuring that more individuals have access to vital housing services, despite any inherited property.

In his statement, MP Buanq emphasized the importance of the collaborative efforts between both the executive and legislative branches of government in tackling the housing challenge. He highlighted that the issue of housing is a top priority for both branches and that they are working together to reduce waiting lists, introduce innovative housing solutions, and continuously update regulations to ensure that citizens have access to the housing services guaranteed by the Constitution. The ongoing work towards improving access to housing services is a key aspect of the government’s commitment to providing better living conditions for all Bahrainis.

The recently approved draft decision by the Cabinet, which amends the regulatory requirements for development in housing project areas, is also regarded as a positive step. This amendment will enable an expansion in the construction areas of housing units and plots, addressing the need for larger and more suitable housing options for the citizens of Bahrain. By allowing for greater flexibility in housing development, the government aims to provide more diverse and accommodating housing options to meet the varying needs of the population.

In addition to the positive changes already implemented, MP Buanq has also highlighted several other housing-related issues that require attention. These include the review of housing benefits, delays in the disbursement of budgets for certain housing services (particularly for citizens waiting for benefits for over nine months), and the need to align housing unit specifications with the requirements of Bahraini families. Despite these challenges, MP Buanq remains optimistic that solutions will be found, given the Crown Prince’s strong commitment to addressing these issues and ensuring that all Bahraini citizens have access to suitable housing options.

Overall, the recent developments in the housing sector in Bahrain reflect a concerted effort by the government to prioritize the needs of its citizens and address key housing concerns. The elimination of discriminatory rules and the implementation of amendments to housing regulations demonstrate a commitment to improving access to housing services and providing suitable living conditions for all Bahraini citizens. With ongoing collaboration between the executive and legislative branches of government, there is optimism that further progress will be made in addressing housing challenges and ensuring that every citizen has access to the housing services guaranteed by the Constitution.
