His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), has recently issued Decision No. (18) of 2024, establishing the Supreme Committee for Sports Medicine in Bahrain. The committee, chaired by HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and with Brigadier Dr. Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa Al Khalifa serving as Deputy Chair, includes prominent members such as Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Ansari, and Dr. Lulwa Rashid Showaiter. Their primary focus is on improving athlete welfare.

The Supreme Committee for Sports Medicine is responsible for overseeing all aspects of sports medicine, with a focus on diagnosing and treating sports-related injuries and conditions that affect athletes in various sports clubs and national teams across Bahraini sports federations. It will provide medical and nutritional support, implement advanced treatment methods for sports injuries, collaborate with medical institutions, and manage medical care costs for athletes. The committee will also work closely with physical therapy specialists to address conditions impacting athletic performance.

One of the main goals of the committee is to enhance athletic performance through recommendations on nutrition, training, and modern health techniques. By maintaining athlete health, preventing injuries and diseases, and conducting studies and research, the committee aims to establish specialized centers in sports medicine and build partnerships with advanced medical entities in the field. This initiative demonstrates Bahrain’s dedication to promoting athlete health and performance, solidifying its role as a leader in sports development in the region.

Under the new Decision, the committee chair or deputy has the authority to establish specialized sub-committees that focus on specific areas of sports medicine. These sub-committees will report to the Supreme Committee and carry out studies and assigned duties to provide comprehensive advice in designated areas. By forming these sub-committees, the Supreme Committee for Sports Medicine can address various aspects of sports medicine in a more organized and efficient manner, further enhancing athlete welfare and performance in Bahrain.

Overall, the establishment of the Supreme Committee for Sports Medicine in Bahrain, chaired by HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, represents a major step towards improving athlete welfare and performance in the country. The committee’s mandate includes providing medical and nutritional support, diagnosing and treating sports injuries, collaborating with medical institutions, managing medical care costs, and enhancing athletic performance through advanced techniques. By forming specialized sub-committees and conducting research, the committee aims to further elevate Bahrain’s status as a leader in sports development in the region.
