WCM-Q student forum highlights creativity of medical trainees

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar recently held its annual Student Research Forum, showcasing the innovative and scientific discoveries of its students. The event featured 78 scientific posters, oral presentations, and a keynote address by renowned pediatrician and endocrinologist, Prof George P Chrousos. The forum also included messages from four WCM-Q alumni who are now working in leading healthcare institutions in Qatar and the US, highlighting the importance of research in revolutionizing clinical practice and healthcare.

The keynote address by Prof George P Chrousos focused on research related to the management and consequences of stress, as well as the role of the endocrine system in stress. Prof Chrousos, who holds the Unesco Chair on Adolescent Health Care and is ranked among the top 250 most cited scientists worldwide, shared his groundbreaking contributions to medical research with the audience. His speech emphasized the significance of research in advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care.

Following the keynote address, four WCM-Q alumni, who are now working in prestigious healthcare institutions in Qatar and the US, shared their experiences and insights on the power of research in transforming clinical practice and healthcare. Dr. Sarah Kanbour, Dr. Essa Abuhelaiqa, Dr. Ghaith Abu-Zeinah, and Dr. Wasseem Skef discussed the impact of research on their respective fields and highlighted the importance of continuous learning and innovation in the medical profession.

In addition to the keynote address and alumni messages, six students from Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar presented their research projects at the forum. The oral research presentations given by Syed Muhammad Jalil, Ateeque Mohamad Ali, Tala Abu Samaan, Kareem Fanous, Aisha Al Mulla, and Aimen Javed covered a wide range of topics in medicine and highlighted the students’ dedication to scientific discovery and innovation. The presentations provided insights into the latest advancements in healthcare and showcased the students’ commitment to pushing the boundaries of medical research.

The Student Research Forum at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar concluded with the announcement of the winning students in the research contest, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the field of medicine. The forum served as a platform for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to engage with cutting-edge research, network with industry leaders, and discover the potential for innovation in the medical field. The event highlighted the importance of research in driving advancements in healthcare and fostering a culture of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration among the next generation of medical professionals.
