Abu Dhabi is gearing up to offer water sports enthusiasts an exciting new experience with the upcoming opening of Surf Abu Dhabi in October 2024. The facility, located on Al Hudayriat Island, boasts one of the largest wave pools in the world and is a joint venture between Modon and the Kelly Slater Wave Company. Designed to cater to surfers of all levels, Surf Abu Dhabi promises a surfing experience that closely mimics the real ocean, thanks to its cutting-edge technology that creates consistent and controlled waves.

General manager Ryan Watkins expressed his excitement about the opening of the facility, citing Hudariyat Island as an ideal location due to its reputation as a sports hub. Surf Abu Dhabi aims to offer a unique surfing experience to guests of all ages, with waves tailored to suit individual skill levels. From complete beginners to seasoned surfers, the facility is equipped to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

With no age restrictions in place, Surf Abu Dhabi is open to kids as young as four and ex-pro surfers looking to get back on the waves. The facility will operate from Monday to Thursday from 9am to 10pm and from 9am to 11pm on weekends, allowing visitors ample time to enjoy the waves. Safety briefings and equipment preparation are recommended at least an hour before the surfing sessions.

Surf Abu Dhabi is divided into different zones tailored to varying skill levels. Beginners can start at the ‘Beach Break’ area, which features gentle rolling waves designed to build confidence and teach basic surfing skills. More experienced surfers can head to the ‘Cocoa Beach’ zone for waist-high, slow-paced waves, while intermediate surfers can test their skills at the ‘Point Break’ area with faster waves and controlled barrels. For advanced surfers, ‘Kelly’s Wave’ offers high-performance waves with multiple barrel sections for a challenging experience.

To help beginners get started, Surf Abu Dhabi offers a “Learn to Surf” program at the Beach Break area. The 60-minute session covers essential techniques, safety tips, and equipment usage under the guidance of trained instructors. The facility also provides all-inclusive gear rental and professional coaching, making surfing accessible to everyone and ensuring a fun and safe experience for all participants. Whether you’re a first-time surfer or a seasoned pro, Surf Abu Dhabi promises an unforgettable surfing adventure in the heart of the UAE.
