Shura Council examines the role of women in maintaining cultural identity and sustainable development

The Shura Council recently participated in the Fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, with Deputy Speaker Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti delivering a speech emphasizing the importance of women in sustainable development and preserving cultural traditions. She highlighted the role of women in indigenous communities in preserving cultural identity and unique ecosystems. Qatar’s efforts to support and empower women in these communities were also discussed, focusing on economic and social empowerment and leadership development while respecting cultural heritage.

Dr. Hamda Al Sulaiti emphasized the need for comprehensive strategies that balance industrial development with traditional lifestyles, calling for dialogue between government sectors and local communities to ensure development projects align with traditional values. She also noted the importance of educational programs and initiatives empowering women in leadership and entrepreneurship, rooted in local culture to preserve heritage and identity. Qatar’s commitment to supporting initiatives preserving cultural diversity and empowering women in sustainable development was reiterated.

The session at the forum addressed challenges faced by women due to globalization and geopolitical changes, as well as the role of women in transmitting traditional knowledge and protecting ecosystems and cultures. Dr. Hamda Al Sulaiti also participated in a roundtable discussing women’s role in artificial intelligence and its impact on their lives and opportunities in the labor market. The importance of involving women in the field of AI was emphasized, with Qatar taking steps to empower women in technology innovation and highlighting the unique perspectives women bring to the sector.

The potential risks of artificial intelligence on women in the labor market were addressed, stressing the need for policies that advance AI serving humanity while preserving the rights of all. The Eurasian Women’s Forum aims to enhance cooperation between women from various Eurasian countries, focusing on their role in politics, economy, culture, and sustainable development. The forum also aims to support women’s empowerment through discussions on policies enhancing their leadership role and promoting diversity and equality across sectors.

Overall, the Shura Council’s participation in the Fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum highlighted the importance of women in sustainable development and preserving cultural heritage. Dr. Hamda Al Sulaiti’s speeches emphasized the need for strategies that balance industrial development with traditional lifestyles and the importance of empowering women in leadership and entrepreneurship rooted in local culture.
