Couples in the UAE are increasingly embracing the trend of mass weddings and joint ceremonies as a way to save on wedding expenses while still celebrating their love. This practice involves combining multiple weddings into one larger event, resulting in significant economic benefits. Industry experts estimate that hosting mass weddings can save nearly 70 to 80% of the overall budget.

The trend of mass weddings is not limited to Emiratis, as expatriates are also recognizing the financial advantages of this practice. Gauri Chadha, creative director of Big Night Events (BNE), highlighted that combining weddings into one event can lead to substantial savings on various costs such as venue rentals, decorations, entertainment, and technical aspects like sound and lighting. This cost-effective approach has become increasingly popular among couples looking to manage their wedding expenses.

While the savings from mass weddings are appealing, it is essential to ensure that each couple receives the attention and significance they deserve on their special day. Chadha emphasized the importance of understanding the uniqueness of each couple and organizing the event to accommodate everyone’s needs. For Indian weddings, which often involve multiple ceremonies, scheduling events at different times or incorporating simultaneous activities can help ensure a memorable and personalized experience for each couple.

Governmental entities in the UAE have also supported the initiative of mass weddings as a way to alleviate financial pressure on young couples. Maha B, who attended a mass wedding, shared her experience of how multiple brides shared the costs of hall rentals and decorations, resulting in significant savings for each couple. By agreeing on neutral options for decorations and basic food choices, the couples were able to enjoy a beautiful ceremony without breaking the bank.

The Dubai Women’s Association has been actively promoting mass weddings through their initiative, Zaffat Harayer, which celebrates multiple weddings in a single event. This year’s event saw 14 brides and grooms tying the knot, with the association covering all costs, including venue rentals, attire, invitations, catering, and traditional dances. The shift towards afternoon ceremonies aligns with directives to reduce dowry costs and overall marriage expenses by limiting celebrations to under four hours.

The trend of shared weddings is gaining momentum, with couples like Indian brothers Aarush and Arjun opting to combine their wedding celebrations to save on costs effectively. Similarly, Sudanese friends Alia Mahmoud and Razan Mustafa are planning a joint wedding with their partners to save money and share the joy of their special day. By booking catering and entertainment together, they are able to cut down on expenses while still enjoying a memorable wedding experience.Hosting mass weddings and joint ceremonies is a practical and cost-effective way for couples in the UAE to celebrate their love while managing their wedding expenses wisely. With the support of governmental initiatives and the growing popularity of this trend among both Emiratis and expatriates, mass weddings offer a unique and memorable experience that brings couples together in a shared celebration of love and unity.
