Saudi Arabia hosts UN event on ‘unlocking innovation’ for sustainable development

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Economy and Planning recently organized an event during the United Nations General Assembly titled “Unlocking Innovation for Sustainable Development through Platforms and Partnerships.” The event focused on the role of e-platforms in bringing together various stakeholders to drive impactful and inclusive sustainable development. It featured panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and case study presentations with high-level representatives from the public sector, international organizations, the private sector, and academia.

Speakers at the panel discussion included Hajar Algosair, General Supervisor for Assistant Deputyship for Sustainable Development at the Ministry of Economy and Planning; Professor Carlos Duarte, Chief Scientist at WAVE; Dima Al-Khatib, Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation; John Dutton, Head of UpLink and Executive Committee Member of the World Economic Forum; and Julius Van Heel, Senior Partner and Leader of the International Development Sector at Deloitte. The discussion was moderated by Abdulrahman Al-Zamil, Director General of Sustainability Empowerment at the Ministry of Economy and Planning.

The session concluded by highlighting the importance of continuous collaboration and innovation to achieve sustainable development goals. It called on the international community to address challenges hindering progress on these goals, emphasizing the role of innovation in overcoming obstacles and creating a more inclusive and sustainable future.
