Salmaniya Hospital Eliminates Waiting List for Cochlear Implants, Surgery Now Available Within a Week

Dr. Mariam Athbi Al Jalahma, CEO of Government Hospitals, recently announced that the waiting list for cochlear implant surgeries at Salmaniya Medical Complex has been cleared as of August. This comes as part of efforts to improve healthcare standards in the Kingdom of Bahrain, following directions from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Al Jalahma expressed her gratitude to His Royal Highness for his support in enhancing public health services, noting the importance of cochlear implant surgeries in transforming the lives of those with hearing impairments and their families.

Since the beginning of 2024, a total of 23 cochlear implant surgeries have been performed, bringing the cumulative number to 373 since the programme started. With the waiting list now cleared, new patients can expect to undergo the procedure within a week of completing their assessments. The cochlear implant team at Salmaniya Medical Complex consists of various professionals, including surgeons, consultants, audiology experts, speech and hearing therapists, a social researcher, and a psychologist, ensuring comprehensive care for patients undergoing the procedure.
