Joe Root, the star batter for England, is aiming to surpass Alistair Cook’s record career haul of runs in the upcoming Test match against Pakistan. Root needs just 71 more runs to break Cook’s record of 12,472, and he is hopeful that he can achieve this milestone in the match starting on Monday. Root, who is 33 years old, holds the record for hitting the most hundreds for England with 34, and he has been in top form, scoring half of them since 2020. With 146 Tests under his belt, Root may also have his sights set on beating Sachin Tendulkar’s international record of 15,921 runs.

England had previously clean swept Pakistan 3-0 in 2022, which was Pakistan’s first-ever home whitewash. Root acknowledged the success of their last tour to Pakistan and highlighted the confidence gained from that series. However, this time around, both teams are facing the challenge of high temperatures reaching up to 39 degrees Celsius. Root emphasized the importance of preparing for the extreme heat and adapting to the conditions throughout the five-day Test match. Pakistan vice-captain Saud Shakeel also expressed concerns about the impact of the heat on the pitch’s grass cover but assured that they would consider all factors while planning their strategy against England’s aggressive style of play.

Both teams are gearing up for a competitive series, with Pakistan looking to capitalize on England’s attacking cricket style by forcing mistakes from their opponents. Shakeel mentioned that playing against an aggressive team like England provides more opportunities to catch them off guard. Root, on the other hand, remains focused on his personal milestones and the overall success of the team. As England and Pakistan prepare to face off in Multan, the intense heat and challenging pitch conditions are expected to add an extra layer of complexity to the series. Fans are eagerly anticipating an exciting showdown between two talented cricketing nations, with Root leading the charge for England’s success as he chases records and history.
