Qatar Reaffirms Dedication to Fighting Organized Crime and Creating a Successful, Efficient Criminal Justice System

The State of Qatar recently reiterated its commitment to combatting organized crime by focusing on prevention and control measures. In a speech delivered at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime in Vienna, the State of Qatar highlighted its dedication to upholding the rule of law and establishing a successful criminal justice system. The speech, delivered by HE Legal Advisor to HE the Minister of Interior Major General Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal, emphasized the importance of partnerships with organizations like the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the fight against organized crime.

Despite facing challenges, the State of Qatar has maintained a high ranking among the safest countries according to the Global Peace Index and the Global Organized Crime Index. This demonstrates the country’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens and residents. The State of Qatar’s eagerness to enhance its partnership with UNODC was highlighted in the speech, with a focus on the inauguration of the UNODC Regional Center for Combatting Cybercrime in Doha this year. This center serves the Middle East and North Africa region, further demonstrating Qatar’s commitment to combatting organized crime on a regional level.

The State of Qatar’s efforts to combat organized crime are further exemplified by its implementation of the Doha Declaration, adopted by the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. The Head of the Follow-up Committee for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration, Major General Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal, emphasized the importance of prevention and control measures in dealing with organized crime. By prioritizing prevention and control, the State of Qatar aims to address the root causes of organized crime and effectively combat its spread.

In his remarks, Major General Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal also highlighted the need for a successful and effective criminal justice system in the fight against organized crime. The State of Qatar recognizes the importance of a robust legal framework and efficient law enforcement agencies in addressing organized crime. By upholding the rule of law and implementing measures to prevent and control organized crime, Qatar aims to create a safer and more secure environment for its citizens and residents.

The State of Qatar’s commitment to combatting organized crime extends beyond its borders, with a focus on regional cooperation and partnerships. The inauguration of the UNODC Regional Center for Combatting Cybercrime in Doha this year reflects Qatar’s dedication to working with other countries in the Middle East and North Africa region to address the challenges posed by organized crime. By fostering collaboration and sharing resources, Qatar aims to strengthen its efforts in combatting organized crime and creating a safer region for all.
