H E Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, participated in a crucial session on “Sustainable Trade and Entrepreneurship: Pathways to Re-Globalization” at the WTO headquarters in Geneva. In her address, she emphasized that sustainable trade is not just about economic growth but also about deeper global cooperation, social development, and resilience. She highlighted the key role of sustainable trade and entrepreneurship in addressing contemporary challenges like climate change, economic inequalities, and inclusive development.

Dr. Al Muftah highlighted Qatar’s long-standing support for international agreements and partnerships, especially in promoting global humanitarian efforts and innovative approaches to sustainable development. She underscored the significance of the WTO in providing a multilateral framework that integrates sustainability into global trade practices. She also stressed the importance of peace, linking sustainable trade to peace as both require collective action, multilateral cooperation, and a commitment to justice and fairness.

She pointed to Qatar’s recent acceptance of the WTO’s Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies as a demonstration of the nation’s commitment to safeguarding the marine ecosystem and promoting environmental sustainability. By supporting global efforts to curb harmful fishing subsidies, Qatar is reaffirming the vital role of the WTO in delivering global public goods. Dr. Al Muftah expressed hope that Qatar’s leadership in this area would inspire other WTO members to follow suit, strengthening collective efforts for marine sustainability and the livelihoods that depend on it.

Dr. Al Muftah also referenced a summit held under the patronage of H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with Unesco. The summit focused on how businesses can align their economic, social, and environmental goals with operational strategies, reflecting Qatar’s commitment to a balanced and sustainable global future. Qatar’s dedication to sustainable trade and environmental protection is evident through its participation in global initiatives and agreements aimed at promoting sustainability and economic development.

Overall, Qatar’s proactive approach to sustainable trade and entrepreneurship, as demonstrated in various initiatives and partnerships, highlights the nation’s commitment to addressing global challenges and promoting a more inclusive and resilient future. By emphasizing the importance of multilateral cooperation, social development, and environmental sustainability, Qatar is playing a significant role in shaping the future of global trade and fostering peace and equality on an international scale.
