The State of Qatar has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation for its blatant disregard of international laws and resolutions, its persistent violations of human rights, and its continued crimes against the Palestinian population in Gaza. In a statement delivered at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Qatar called for international solidarity to end the war in Gaza and to hold Israel accountable for its actions. The State of Qatar emphasized the need to achieve a just and sustainable peace in the region through compliance with international efforts.

The State of Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, highlighted the urgent crisis facing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Qatar called on the UNGA to fulfill its responsibility under its resolution establishing UNRWA and to address the Israeli legislations that target the agency. Qatar has been a key supporter of UNRWA, with a financial contribution of over $49 million in 2024, making it one of the largest supporting countries to the agency.

Qatar reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s just cause in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. Qatar expressed appreciation for UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini and his team for their humanitarian work in challenging circumstances. Qatar condemned the Israeli aggression that has led to the deaths of UNRWA employees and thousands of Palestinian victims in Gaza, including relief workers and journalists.

The State of Qatar condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of laws banning UNRWA activities in the occupied Palestinian territories as a dangerous precedent that undermines multilateral action and targets vital humanitarian activities. Qatar warned of severe humanitarian and political consequences if UNRWA’s activities are banned, depriving millions of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank of essential services and hindering the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes, guaranteed by international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The State of Qatar urged the international community to take immediate action to end the Israeli aggression in Gaza, ensure compliance with international laws and resolutions, and support UNRWA in delivering essential services to Palestinian refugees. Qatar called for solidarity and unity in efforts to achieve a just and sustainable peace in the region, emphasizing the importance of upholding human rights and justice for all. Qatar’s strong stance in support of the Palestinian people’s rights and their just cause reflects its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.

In conclusion, the State of Qatar’s statement at the United Nations General Assembly underscores the urgency of addressing the crisis facing UNRWA and the Palestinian population in Gaza. With a firm commitment to upholding international laws and resolutions, Qatar calls for immediate action to end the Israeli aggression, hold perpetrators accountable, and support humanitarian efforts in the region. By advocating for justice, peace, and human rights, Qatar demonstrates its steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s rights and its dedication to achieving a lasting and sustainable peace in the Middle East.
