Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani recently concluded a successful tour of Australia and New Zealand. During his visit, HE held meetings with the Prime Ministers and various ministers of both countries to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in various fields. The discussions also touched on regional and international issues of common concern, such as the developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.

In Canberra, HE Sheikh Mohammed met with Prime Minister of Australia HE Anthony Albanese, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense HE Richard Marles, and Minister for Foreign Affairs HE Penny Wong. They discussed cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to bolster them in defense, economy, investment, energy, aviation, trade, clean energy, and technology. The meetings also delved into regional and international matters, including efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, releasing prisoners and detainees, reducing tensions in the Middle East to enhance security, and recent developments in Afghanistan.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed Qatar’s appreciation for Australia’s support of regional and international peace and stability efforts during his meeting with the Australian Prime Minister. In return, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense of Australia thanked Qatar for its support of security and stability efforts in the Middle East. The Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in turn, expressed her country’s backing for mediation efforts in Gaza and praised Qatar’s role in repatriating stranded Australian citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic and evacuating Australians from Afghanistan and Gaza.

In New Zealand, HE Sheikh Mohammed met with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters, and Minister for Trade and Export Growth Todd McClay. They discussed enhancing economic cooperation, investment opportunities in aviation, energy, and investment sectors, cooperation in clean energy, technology research, international development, and boosting trade exchange between the two countries. Additionally, they touched on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and Qatar’s mediation efforts to end the conflict in the region.

Overall, the tour aimed to strengthen ties between Qatar, Australia, and New Zealand while addressing pressing regional and international issues. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in various sectors such as defense, trade, energy, and technology to promote mutual interests and stability. The meetings also highlighted the need for continued efforts to achieve peace in conflict-ridden areas such as the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, with Qatar playing a pivotal role in mediating solutions and supporting international peace initiatives.

HE Sheikh Mohammed’s visit underscored the importance of diplomatic relations in addressing global challenges and fostering cooperation among nations. The discussions held during the tour reflected a shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region and beyond. As Qatar continues to play a significant role in mediation efforts and supporting international initiatives, its partnerships with countries like Australia and New Zealand are crucial in advancing common goals and addressing pressing issues on the global stage.
