The General Directorate of Meteorology in Muscat has issued an alert regarding a low pressure area forming east of the Arabian Sea which is expected to bring rainfall to parts of the Sultanate of Oman on Friday, October 18, 2024. The wind speed in the area is currently ranging between 10 to 15 knots and there are chances of cumulonimbus cloud activity, scattered rain of varying intensity, thunderstorms, and active descending winds. These weather conditions may lead to overflowing valleys in Al Hajar Mountains, neighbouring areas, and Dhofar Governorate in the afternoon and evening.

The satellite images indicate that the low pressure area is forming along the western coast of the Republic of India, and it is likely to move towards Oman bringing more rainfall in the coming days. The General Directorate of Meteorology is closely monitoring the situation and providing regular updates to the public to ensure they are prepared for any potential impacts from the weather. Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the inclement weather.

It is important to stay informed about weather updates and alerts from official sources during such weather events to avoid any risks or dangers. The Directorate’s announcement highlights the potential risks associated with the weather conditions, including overflowing valleys and thunderstorms, which could pose a threat to residents in the affected regions. By following the guidance provided by the General Directorate of Meteorology, individuals can take necessary steps to protect themselves and their property from the adverse effects of the weather.

The rain and thunderstorms expected in parts of Oman on Friday could lead to localized flooding and hazardous driving conditions. It is recommended for residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors during heavy rainfall to ensure their safety. Be cautious while driving on wet roads and follow traffic advisories issued by local authorities to prevent accidents and minimize disruptions caused by the weather.

As the low pressure area moves closer to Oman, it is important for residents to be prepared for potential impacts and disruptions to daily activities. By taking proactive measures such as securing loose objects, checking drainage systems, and having emergency supplies on hand, individuals can minimize the risks associated with adverse weather conditions. The General Directorate of Meteorology will continue to provide updates on the situation and issue any necessary warnings to ensure the safety and well-being of the public in Oman.

In conclusion, the upcoming weather system forming east of the Arabian Sea is expected to bring rainfall and thunderstorms to parts of Oman on Friday, October 18, 2024. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates, take necessary precautions, and follow the guidance provided by the General Directorate of Meteorology to ensure their safety during the inclement weather. By staying prepared and aware of the potential risks associated with the weather conditions, individuals can protect themselves and their communities from any adverse effects of the approaching low pressure area.
