Oman hosts its inaugural Histology and Cytology Conference

The inaugural Histology and Cytology Conference, known as ‘Leica Day’, held in Muscat, Oman, was a significant milestone for the country’s medical community. The event, themed ‘Advancing Histopathology for a Healthier Oman: Insights and Innovations by Omani & Leica Experts’, brought together healthcare professionals and leaders from various institutions across Oman. The Chief Guest, Sayyid Said bin Sultan bin Ya`arub Al-Busaidi, highlighted the importance of the conference for the future of healthcare in Oman. Adil Muneeb Rana, Managing Partner of MedGene Technologies LLC, Oman, in his opening speech, stressed the need for global expertise and local talent to revolutionize histopathology practices in Oman.

Dr. Elif Yaman from Leica Biosystems delivered a talk on Leica’s workflow solutions, showcasing how cutting-edge technology is reshaping histopathological processes. A key moment of the conference was an award ceremony recognizing the contributions of key opinion leaders from across the nation. Dr. Fatema Al Lawati, from the Royal Hospital, presented on Quality Assurance and Standardisation in Histopathology, emphasizing the importance of upholding high standards for accurate diagnostic results. Hossam Ayham from Leica Biosystems discussed Leica’s role in Digital Pathology and advancements in automation and artificial intelligence, while Dr. Radiya Al Ajmi shared insights on Molecular Diagnostics of Lung Cancer.

The event also featured presentations on Automated Molecular Pathology, Core Histology Solutions, and Advanced Staining Solutions by experts from Leica Biosystems, highlighting the latest innovations in diagnostic platforms. Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with these experts during an interactive device demonstration session, where they could explore cutting-edge products such as the Bond Max, GT450, Pearl, and AXL. Dr. Hunaina Al Kindi presented intriguing case studies demonstrating the benefits of advanced histological techniques for better patient outcomes in complex diagnostic scenarios. Dr. Nasser Al Rahbi discussed the Implementation of Advanced Pathology in Oman Healthcare Systems, emphasizing the importance of adopting innovative solutions to enhance healthcare in Oman.

The conference concluded with closing remarks from Maj. Said Al Hashami, Managing Partner of MedGene Technologies, expressing gratitude to all participants for their contributions. The event provided attendees with a glimpse into the future of histopathology in Oman, showcasing the potential of integrating new technologies into medical practices. With the success of the first-ever Leica Day, Oman is taking progressive strides towards achieving excellence in pathology and setting a high standard for the region. This landmark event has set the stage for future collaborations and innovations in the field of histopathology, contributing to a healthier and more resilient healthcare system in Oman.
