Omani Women’s Day is celebrated on 17 October each year in the Sultanate of Oman, with this year’s festivities dedicated to the theme of culture, literature, and poetry. The event, held at Al Bustan Palace Hotel, saw the presence of creative and accomplished women in various fields, including poetry, theatre, novels, documents, and national manuscripts. His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, emphasized the essential role of Omani women in society, highlighting their contributions to the country’s cultural richness.

A visual presentation during the ceremony showcased the significant role Omani women play in the realm of culture and literature. Additionally, a special publication titled “Omani Women: A 100-Year Journey of Giving” was announced, aiming to document the contributions of female talents to the Omani renaissance and shed light on the accomplishments of Omani women in different fields. The publication is tailored to recognize prominent Omani women, aged 19 and above, who have excelled in their respective fields and received recognition at local, regional, and international levels.

The commemorative publication is divided into two parts, covering the fifty years prior to the blessed Renaissance and the era following the leadership of Sultan Qaboos bin Said and Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. It is updated with a new edition every two years to stay current with evolving contributions and achievements of Omani women. The ceremony also featured the operetta “Eve of Oman,” which portrayed the esteemed status of women in society throughout history, emphasizing their pivotal role in shaping the future of the nation.

The event culminated with the honoring of pioneering Omani women in the fields of culture and literature, such as poetry, novels, theatre, and manuscripts. Poetesses and writers including Badriya bint Mohammed Al Badriya, Amama bint Mustafa Al Lawati, Maryam bint Hamid Al Maamari, Sheikha bint Nasser Al-Akhzami, and others were recognized for their exceptional contributions to Omani culture and literature. The ceremony aimed to celebrate and acknowledge the talent and achievements of Omani women, highlighting their significant role in the country’s cultural landscape.

Omani Women’s Day serves as a platform to applaud the achievements and contributions of women in Oman, showcasing their talents in various fields while emphasizing their integral role in societal development and progress. The event not only recognizes the accomplishments of pioneering Omani women but also serves to inspire future generations of women to pursue their passions and make a meaningful impact on society. By celebrating the cultural and literary achievements of Omani women, the occasion seeks to promote gender equality and empower women to continue breaking barriers and making significant strides in their respective fields.
