The Maternity Leave Insurance branch, which will be implemented in Oman starting from July 19, is expected to benefit a total of 225,981 individuals, including 160,886 Omanis. The initiative, launched by the Social Protection Fund, aims to provide social protection for families in the country, with a special focus on working mothers. The goal is to empower and appreciate the role of working women socially and economically, while also ensuring and preserving the rights of both the employer and the insured individuals. Additionally, the initiative seeks to expand insurance coverage to include expatriate workers in Oman.

According to the Fund, employers will be required to contribute one percent of their employees’ full wage to the Maternity Leave Insurance branch, with no specific ceiling on the amount. This contribution will be calculated on a daily basis, and will serve to cover individuals with social insurance against various risks. The entitlements of the branch include maternity leave allowance, paternity leave, childcare leave, and maternity leave for employees who have been terminated but are still eligible for job security allowance. This comprehensive coverage is designed to cater to the diverse needs of working families in Oman.

The implementation of the Maternity Leave Insurance branch is a significant step towards providing support and protection for working mothers in Oman. By ensuring that individuals are covered by social insurance against various risks, the initiative aims to provide a safety net for families and promote the well-being of both employers and employees. The inclusion of expatriate workers in the coverage also highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring that all working individuals in Oman have access to the necessary support and protection.

The Social Protection Fund’s emphasis on expanding insurance coverage to include expatriate workers demonstrates a commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that all members of the workforce in Oman are provided with the necessary support and protection. By covering a wide range of entitlements, including maternity leave allowance, paternity leave, childcare leave, and maternity leave for terminated employees, the branch aims to cater to the diverse needs of working families in the country. This holistic approach to social protection reflects the government’s dedication to promoting the well-being and rights of all individuals in Oman.

Overall, the implementation of the Maternity Leave Insurance branch in Oman represents a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to provide social protection for families and support working mothers. By empowering and appreciating the role of working women, expanding insurance coverage to include expatriate workers, and ensuring the rights of both employers and insured individuals, the initiative is poised to have a positive impact on the well-being of families in the country. As the branch is set to be implemented in July, it is expected to benefit a large number of individuals and contribute to the overall social and economic development of Oman.
