The iconic yellow school buses returned to Dubai’s roads as 1.1 million students went back to UAE schools after their summer break. Schools implemented staggered start times to help new students adjust to their environment, peers, and academic expectations. Students in Dubai were excited to return to school, taking photos with friends using fun “welcome back” props in creatively decorated photo booths.

Reuniting with friends brought immense joy to many students, as they shared stories of their holiday adventures and caught up with classmates. Adjusting to early mornings was challenging after the holidays, but the welcoming atmosphere of the school and the anticipation of moving into a senior class made the transition smoother. Students highlighted the joy of reconnecting with friends and the excitement of exploring new school environments, meeting new teachers, and making new friends.

At Indian curriculum schools, senior students were already anticipating upcoming exams as the new term began. School principals expressed their excitement at seeing schools full of life again, with classrooms and corridors buzzing with activity after the long break. They have been busy preparing for the new school year and organizing activities to help students settle in and get to know each other.

Wayne Howsen, principal at The Aquila School, welcomed existing and new families back to school, expressing excitement at seeing the school alive with pupils eager to start a new year of amazing learning. The school’s secondary pupils have moved into a new building with specialist facilities and classrooms to enhance their experience. Schools have also implemented measures to manage traffic, with dedicated parking and crossing points and security teams managing and directing traffic to ensure a smooth transition for parents and students.

School leaders have stationed the Senior Leadership Team at every gate and drop-off point to assist parents and are working closely with management offices to address traffic issues promptly. A staggered approach has been implemented during the first two weeks of school to help younger students acclimate to the classroom setting. Families have been reminded to park and drive safely, with messages shared urging them to walk to school if they live in close proximity for added safety.
