The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Doha, Qatar is gearing up to celebrate the 10th Qatar Patient Safety Week, which will take place from September 15-21. This important event will revolve around the theme “Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety” and will coincide with World Patient Safety Day. The focus this year is on raising awareness about the critical role of accurate, safe, and timely diagnosis in enhancing patient safety.

In recent years, there has been a growing international awareness of diagnostic errors as a major concern in patient safety. The challenges associated with assessing and addressing these errors have come to the forefront, making it essential to prioritize diagnostic safety in healthcare policies and practices. The 10th Qatar Patient Safety Week aims to highlight the significance of accurate diagnosis and create a platform for collaboration between policymakers, healthcare leaders, health workers, patients, and other stakeholders.

A key objective of this week-long event is to empower patients and their families to actively engage with healthcare professionals and leaders to improve diagnostic processes. To achieve this, the MoPH, along with their collaborators, will be organizing various activities and events, including a scientific conference, workshops, an exhibition, and a competition among healthcare institutions. Additionally, a public awareness campaign will be launched at a local shopping mall, with awareness messages being shared on social media platforms.

On September 17th, landmarks across Qatar will be illuminated in orange as a symbol of solidarity and commitment to enhancing patient safety. This gesture aims to draw attention to the importance of patient safety and encourage dialogue on improving diagnostic practices. Academic institutions and healthcare facilities will also host activities targeting leaders in the field, healthcare professionals, patients, families, researchers, and IT experts.

Established in 2014, Qatar Patient Safety Week serves as an annual national event to promote the concept of patient safety among healthcare workers and patients in Qatar. The collaboration between the Ministry of Public Health, healthcare providers, the community, and other stakeholders is crucial for ensuring sustainable and safe healthcare practices in the country. By prioritizing diagnostic safety and engaging all relevant parties, Qatar is taking proactive steps towards improving patient safety and advancing healthcare standards.
