World Humanitarian Day was marked by the Ministry of Labour in Doha on August 19. This day serves to highlight the importance of humanitarian work and the need for a work environment that respects human rights across social, environmental, and economic aspects. Saad Rashid Al Nabit, Assistant Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Department at the Ministry of Labour, emphasized Qatar’s prominent role in providing humanitarian aid globally to countries in need.

Qatar has been a leading player in offering assistance to nations facing disasters, crises, and conflicts, based on principles of cooperation, partnership, integrity, and neutrality. The country also focuses on supporting and strengthening partnerships with local and international humanitarian organizations. Al Nabit, speaking at the ceremony held under the theme “Act for Humanity,” stressed that the Ministry of Labour, particularly the Occupational Safety and Health Department, prioritizes the safety and well-being of humanitarian workers who often face numerous threats in their line of work.

The event, attended by Director of the International Labour Organization Qatar Office Max Tunon and Marco Polo from the Building and Wood Workers’ International Union, as well as other officials from relevant institutions in Qatar, aimed to recognize and thank all humanitarian and charitable workers at local, regional, and international levels. The ceremony also included the honoring of several key figures in the humanitarian sector for their unwavering dedication and commitment to serving others.

Recognizing the challenges faced by humanitarian workers and the importance of their safety and well-being, the Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health Department is committed to ensuring a conducive work environment for all those involved in humanitarian efforts. By prioritizing the protection and welfare of these workers, the Ministry aims to support and enhance the work of humanitarian and charitable organizations at all levels, contributing to global efforts to address humanitarian crises and support vulnerable populations.

The ceremony served as a platform to not only celebrate World Humanitarian Day but also to raise awareness about the critical role of humanitarian workers and the challenges they face in their line of duty. By highlighting the contributions of these individuals and organizations, the event sought to inspire others to join in the efforts to promote human rights, social justice, and environmental sustainability. Through collaboration, partnership, and a shared commitment to humanity, Qatar continues to play a vital role in supporting global humanitarian initiatives and making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

In conclusion, World Humanitarian Day is a reminder of the importance of humanitarian work and the need for a safe and supportive work environment for all those involved in serving others. By recognizing and honoring the contributions of humanitarian workers, Qatar reaffirms its commitment to upholding principles of cooperation, partnership, integrity, and neutrality in global humanitarian efforts. Through continued collaboration and support for humanitarian organizations, Qatar aims to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable populations and contribute to the promotion of human rights and social justice on a global scale.
