In Doha, Qatar, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) is leading the way in the country’s efforts to protect vegetation cover and combat desertification through the Qatari Desert Rehabilitation Project. The project, supervised by the Wildlife Development Department, aims to rehabilitate and fence 150 meadows over the next five years. These meadows serve as natural havens for rare species of wild plants, ensuring the continuity of wildlife in the region.

Several meadows with rare wild species have already been successfully rehabilitated, highlighting the project’s importance in protecting biodiversity and fighting desertification. The ministry’s dedication to safeguarding Qatar’s natural heritage is evident through these efforts.

The Ministry’s initiatives have proven to be effective in protecting wild areas from encroachment, especially during peak public visitation periods in the rainy and spring seasons. Al Khanji stressed the importance of ensuring the sustainability of these natural areas to prevent long-term damage to the local environment.
