HE Minister of Social Development and Family Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad recently spoke at a high-level event at the 57th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. In her speech, she emphasized Qatar’s dedication to cooperating with international partners to protect the rights of women and children in conflict situations and promote their participation in rebuilding societies post-conflict. She highlighted the urgent humanitarian challenges facing families in conflict zones, emphasizing the need for joint action to support and protect vulnerable groups.

Furthermore, HE the Minister stressed the importance of the family unit in building stable and prosperous societies. She noted the State of Qatar’s commitment to supporting the family as the fundamental wealth of nations, as outlined in the ‘Human Rights 75 .. Family Pledge.’ By placing the family at the center of development and humanitarian efforts, Qatar aims to ensure that families are protected from threats such as conflicts, modern technology, and economic transformations.

HE Minister Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad also addressed the impact of armed conflicts on women and children, emphasizing the need to end impunity for crimes committed during conflicts. She expressed disappointment at the low participation of women in peace processes despite international efforts, highlighting Qatar’s initiatives to enhance women’s roles in conflict zones. The Minister called for greater protection for women and their involvement in peacebuilding processes to ensure successful conflict resolution.

During the Human Rights Council session, Minister Maryam met with her counterpart from Egypt to discuss opportunities for cooperation in social affairs and family. Additionally, she engaged with the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights to enhance services for persons with disabilities. The Deputy Commissioner expressed support for Qatar’s efforts to promote disability rights and protect women in conflict areas. Minister Maryam also participated in an exhibition showcasing Qatar’s efforts in promoting human rights and empowering various groups in society.
