MP Jalal Kazim has proposed two amendments to Bahraini laws to provide enhanced legal protections for medical professionals. The first proposal focuses on doctors, while the second extends similar protections to allied medical professionals. The amendment to Article 30 of Decree-Law No. 7 of 1989 concerning the practice of human medicine and dentistry would require criminal investigations against doctors to be initiated by the Public Prosecution after notifying the Ministry of Health and with the presence of a ministry representative. The aim is to protect doctors from arbitrary legal actions and ensure fairness during investigations. This proposal draws inspiration from legal protections for journalists in other countries and cites examples from Iraq and Jordan.

The second proposal by Jalal Kazim seeks to amend Decree-Law No. 2 of 1987 by adding a clause to Article 25 to extend similar legal protections to allied medical professionals. This would require the same process for investigations into offenses committed during or related to their work, with Public Prosecution initiation, ministry notification, and the presence of a ministry representative. The goal of both proposals is to create a secure environment for medical professionals to provide optimal care without fear of unwarranted legal repercussions. These proposals will now undergo the parliamentary process for review and debate.

The proposed amendments aim to protect medical professionals in Bahrain from arbitrary legal actions by establishing procedures for criminal investigations related to their work. By requiring Public Prosecution initiation, ministry notification, and the presence of a ministry representative, these amendments seek to prevent frivolous lawsuits and ensure fairness in the legal process. Drawing parallels to legal protections for journalists in other countries and citing examples from neighboring jurisdictions like Iraq and Jordan, the proposed amendments highlight the importance of safeguarding the rights of medical professionals.

These amendments aim to create a more secure environment for medical professionals, allowing them to carry out their duties without fear of unwarranted legal actions. By establishing clear procedures for criminal investigations and ensuring the presence of a ministry representative, these proposals seek to uphold the rights of medical professionals in Bahrain.
