The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in Muscat recently organized a familiarization meeting for new students who have been shortlisted for scholarships and grants abroad for the Academic Year 2024-2025. This meeting, which took place at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), aimed to provide these students with important information about the key features of the scholarships they will be receiving. The emphasis was on raising awareness about academic, religious, cultural, and legal aspects in the countries offering the scholarships.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs delivered a lecture to advise the students on ways to adapt to different communities and how to preserve their own identity, culture, religious beliefs, and moral values that are unique to the Omani character. It is important for students studying abroad to be able to blend in with their new environment while still staying true to their roots. This advice will surely help the students navigate their new surroundings with confidence and respect.

The Directorate General of Scholarships also provided an overview of the scholarships and grants available for Omani students to study abroad. They outlined the procedures related to travel, study, housing systems, and important electronic services that the countries offering the scholarships may have in place. This information will be key for the students as they prepare for their study abroad experience and navigate the various systems in place in their host countries.

As a further resource, the students were advised to consult the Ministry’s website and utilize the “ASAS” system (https://eservices.moheri.gov.om) for additional information regarding general guidelines, electronic services, laws, and regulations. Having access to these resources will enable the students to stay informed and make informed decisions as they embark on their educational journey abroad. It is important for students to be well-prepared and well-informed before beginning their studies in a foreign country.

Overall, the familiarization meeting organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation in Muscat was a valuable opportunity for new scholarship recipients to learn more about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. By providing insights into academic, religious, cultural, and legal aspects of studying abroad, as well as advice on adaptation and preservation of one’s identity, the Ministry has equipped these students with the tools they need to succeed in their educational pursuits. With access to important information and resources, these students can confidently embark on their journey towards earning a valuable education abroad.
