The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in Bahrain recently conducted a series of inspection campaigns and visits to crack down on undocumented and illegal workers. Between September 29th and October 5th, 2024, a total of 2,200 inspections were carried out, leading to the apprehension of 38 individuals who were found to be living and working in the country illegally. Additionally, 147 individuals were deported during the same period.

The inspections covered a total of 2,171 individual site visits across all governorates in Bahrain, with 29 joint campaigns taking place in various locations. These joint operations revealed numerous violations of regulations, particularly the LMRA Law and Bahrain’s residency law. Legal action is now being taken against those who were found to be in breach of these laws.

In a statement released by the LMRA, it was highlighted that the joint operations involved close collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, specifically the Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs department, as well as security directorates in all governorates. The General Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Forensic Evidence, along with the General Directorate for the Execution of Judgments and Alternative Penalties, were also involved in the efforts to crack down on illegal workers.

The LMRA has emphasized its commitment to working closely with other government entities to enhance inspection campaigns nationwide. The aim is to address any violations or practices that could have a negative impact on the stability and competitiveness of the labor market in Bahrain, as well as threaten the kingdom’s economic and social security. By intensifying these inspections, the LMRA hopes to maintain order and ensure that foreign workers in the country are abiding by all relevant laws and regulations.

These recent enforcement efforts by the LMRA demonstrate the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining order in the labor market. By cracking down on undocumented and illegal workers, the authorities aim to protect the rights of legal foreign workers, as well as safeguard the economic and social security of the kingdom. It is essential for all individuals living and working in Bahrain to ensure that they have the necessary permits and documentation to avoid facing legal consequences.

The joint operations conducted by the LMRA and other government entities serve as a clear message that violations of the law will not be tolerated. It is crucial for all employers and workers in Bahrain to comply with the country’s regulations to avoid facing deportation or other legal repercussions. By working together to enforce these laws, Bahrain aims to create a fair and secure environment for all individuals living and working in the kingdom, while also promoting the stability and competitiveness of the labor market.
