Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman of Saudi Arabia has issued two royal orders reconstituting the Shoura Council and the Council of Senior Scholars. Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh has been reappointed as chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, while Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sheikh has been reinstated as the speaker of the Shoura Council. Mishaal Al-Salami was re-named as deputy speaker of the Shoura Council, and Dr. Hanan Al-Ahmadi was re-appointed as assistant speaker. The Shoura Council, consisting of 150 members, has been reconstituted for a period of four years effective from Rabi Al-Awwal 3, 1446.

The Council of Senior Scholars comprises 20 members in addition to the chairman, including prominent figures such as Muslim World League Secretary General Sheikh Muhammad Al-Issa, former Shoura Council Speaker Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid, and former Secretary General of MWL Sheikh Abdullah Al-Turki. Other distinguished scholars in the Council include Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Manea, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mutlaq, and Sheikh Saad Al-Shathri. The reconstitution of the Council of Senior Scholars will take effect from Rabi Al-Awwal 1, 1446.

These appointments and reconstitutions demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the highest standards of governance and religious leadership. The Council of Senior Scholars plays a crucial role in advising on matters of Islamic law and guiding the country in its adherence to religious principles. By appointing respected scholars and leaders to these positions, King Salman ensures that the country is led by individuals of integrity and expertise.

The Shoura Council serves as Saudi Arabia’s consultative assembly, providing input and advice on matters of national importance. With members serving a four-year term, the Council plays a vital role in representing the interests of the Saudi people and contributing to the decision-making process of the government. The reconstitution of the Shoura Council underlines the importance of having a diverse and knowledgeable group of individuals shaping the country’s policies.

The reappointment of prominent figures such as Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh and Shoura Council Speaker Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sheikh highlights the continuity and stability of religious and political leadership in Saudi Arabia. These leaders bring with them years of experience and expertise, ensuring that the country’s institutions are guided by individuals who understand the complexities of governance and Islamic jurisprudence.

Overall, King Salman’s royal orders reconstituting the Shoura Council and the Council of Senior Scholars reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to excellence in governance and religious leadership. By appointing eminent scholars and experienced leaders to these positions, the country ensures that it is guided by individuals of integrity, knowledge, and dedication to serving the best interests of the Saudi people. These appointments are a testament to the country’s dedication to upholding religious principles, promoting good governance, and fostering an environment of consultation and collaboration in decision-making processes.
