UAE-India relations have been flourishing with significant advancements, especially in the education sector, according to Sunjay Sudhir, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE. Sudhir emphasized the positive transformation in bilateral relations between the two countries, attributing it to the visionary leadership on both sides. The strong bond between India and the UAE serves as a role model, showcasing the power of shared values and mutual respect. The frequent bilateral visits between President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have solidified the relationship, making it quite unprecedented between any two countries.

Indian expats in the UAE came together to celebrate the 78th Indian Independence Day, highlighting the camaraderie shared between the two nations. Sudhir mentioned key milestones in the education sector, such as the opening of India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) office in Dubai and the commencement of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) – Abu Dhabi campus. The CBSE office in Dubai, operational since last month, caters to 105 CBSE-affiliated schools in the UAE and the 325,000 students enrolled in these schools. Additionally, the IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi campus has launched a master’s program in early 2024, with plans to start a flagship bachelor’s program in September 2024. Discussions are also underway to establish a campus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) in Dubai.

In February this year, the inauguration of the BAPS Hindu Mandir marked a significant milestone in the growing relationship between the two nations. Sudhir praised the temple as a shining example of the deepening ties and cultural exchange between India and the UAE. With over 3.5 million Indians calling the UAE home, Sudhir acknowledged the expat community’s contributions to the economic development of the country. He reassured the community of enhanced consular and community services by the Indian missions in the UAE. Efforts are being made to provide welfare services to the Indian community, with camps set up in Al Ain and Ruwais for consular services.

The Indian expat community’s tireless contributions to various sectors in the UAE were highlighted by Sudhir, recognizing their crucial role in the nation’s progress. The large number of Indian nationals choosing the UAE as their home underscores the strong bond between the two countries. Sudhir expressed gratitude to associations, community leaders, and social workers for their dedication in serving the Indian community in the UAE. By commemorating India’s Independence Day and emphasizing the deep-rooted relationship between India and the UAE, Sudhir reiterated the commitment to further strengthen ties and support the Indian expat community in the region.
