The Historic Jeddah Program has made significant strides in its first phase, with a focus on revitalizing the region as a hub for business and cultural activities while preserving its unique architectural heritage. Through a strategic plan, the program has successfully transformed living spaces to attract business and cultural projects, enhanced natural components like seafronts and green spaces, and highlighted the region’s historical significance. Key achievements include the reinforcement and rescue of 233 heritage buildings, with 58 buildings fully restored and 35 equipped and rehabilitated.

Exciting archaeological discoveries have been made across four excavation sites, unearthing over 25,000 artifacts dating back to the early Islamic period. Notable findings include wooden pieces from the Mosque of Othman bin Affan, dating back to the seventh century AD. Iconic areas such as Beit Jokhdar and Beit Al-Balad courtyards have undergone significant restoration efforts, while public spaces like Al-Nada Market and Gold Street have been restored. Additionally, international art sculptures and vast green landscapes have been introduced in Al-Arbaeen Lake Park.

In order to ensure sustainability and security within the region, the Historic Jeddah Program has employed 937 security personnel to guarantee the safety of visitors and property. This has resulted in a 250% increase in response efficiency, demonstrating the program’s dedication to creating a secure environment for all. Launched in 2021 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the program aligns with Saudi Vision 2030’s goal of transforming Jeddah into a global heritage destination.

Overall, the Historic Jeddah Program has made significant progress in its mission to preserve the cultural and architectural legacy of the region. Through restoration efforts, archaeological discoveries, and security enhancements, the program has successfully revitalized key areas while maintaining the historical significance of Jeddah. As the program continues to move forward, it will play a crucial role in transforming Jeddah into a global heritage destination, attracting business, cultural projects, and visitors from around the world.
