In the first half of 2024, Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, Qatar, experienced impressive growth across various metrics. Passenger traffic saw a significant increase of 25%, with a total of 25.9 million passengers passing through the airport. This growth was driven by a 22.1% increase in point-to-point passengers, reflecting the airport’s expanding network of airline partners and the thriving tourism industry in Qatar. Additionally, aircraft movements and cargo operations also saw substantial growth, with a 19% increase in aircraft movements and a 12% increase in cargo operations compared to the same period in 2023.

The airport’s network expanded further in 2024 with the addition of new airline partners such as Japan Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, and China Southern Airlines, among others. This expansion has not only enhanced connectivity for passengers but also boosted tourism, fostered trade relationships, and strengthened business ties between Qatar and the global community. The airport’s commitment to providing more travel options and improving connectivity has been a key driver of its growth in passenger traffic and cargo operations.

Global traffic growth at Hamad International Airport has been robust, with a notable 45.3% increase in demand to and from the Middle East. This growth has been supported by the recovery of airline operations between GCC countries, particularly the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Traffic to and from Europe also saw a significant increase of 32.8%, with new destinations being launched and increased capacity to existing destinations by Qatar Airways and Spain’s Iberia. The Asian-Pacific region experienced a growth of 20.9%, with the addition of new airlines like Xiamen Airlines and expanded capacity in key Asian markets by Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways, the flag carrier airline of Qatar, played a significant role in driving growth at Hamad International Airport by expanding its capacity in key Asian markets and introducing new routes to various Asian cities. London emerged as the top destination, with Qatar Airways serving both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Other popular destinations included Bangkok, Dubai, Jeddah, and Colombo. With its strategic partnerships and route expansions, Qatar Airways has helped position Hamad International Airport as a leading global aviation hub.

Looking ahead, Hamad International Airport projects a further increase in passenger traffic in the second half of 2024. Having already reached the 50 million passenger per annum mark earlier in the year, the airport is poised to surpass this milestone by the year end. This growth trajectory solidifies Hamad International Airport’s position as a key player in the global aviation industry and underscores Qatar’s commitment to enhancing its aviation infrastructure. With continued investments in connectivity and passenger experience, Hamad International Airport is set for a strong finish to 2024.
