The Kasargod District Pravasi Association in Bahrain recently hosted a grand event called ‘Unnirajinu Opparam’ to celebrate the festive occasion of Onam. The event brought together members of the expatriate community from Kasaragod district in Kerala, India, for a day filled with cultural performances, a traditional ‘Onasadya’, and more. Popular film and television star Unni Raja graced the event as the chief guest, adding a touch of glamour to the celebration. The association’s General Secretary Rajeev Vellikoth inaugurated the festivities, while President Rajesh Kodoth presided over the ceremony, alongside other notable attendees.

One of the highlights of the day was the traditional ‘Onasadya’, a feast featuring a variety of delicious dishes that showcased the rich culinary heritage of the region. Residents from different parts of Bahrain gathered to enjoy the meal and celebrate together. The event also included a lineup of cultural performances, including music and dance, with association members putting on lively shows. The Aaravam Folk Band delivered a captivating musical performance that added to the festive atmosphere, keeping the audience engaged and entertained throughout the day.

Special guests at the event included Women’s Section Convener Amita Sunil and Patron Shafi Parakatta. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from Manikandan Mangad, while KP Rajeev served as the evening’s host. Overall, the event was a true celebration of Onam’s spirit of unity and tradition, bringing the expatriate community together in a vibrant and festive atmosphere. It was a joyous occasion filled with cultural exchange, delicious food, and lively entertainment that left attendees with lasting memories of the celebration.

The Onam festival holds great significance in Kerala and among Malayalees around the world, symbolizing the return of King Mahabali. It is a time for families and communities to come together, indulge in traditional customs and rituals, and enjoy feasting on a variety of dishes. The festival is characterized by vibrant decorations, colorful floral arrangements, and traditional attire worn by participants. In Bahrain, the festival is no different, with the expatriate community coming together to recreate the festive spirit of Onam and keep their cultural traditions alive.

As the expatriate community from Kasaragod district in Bahrain celebrated Onam at the ‘Unnirajinu Opparam’ event, they were able to connect with their roots and share their cultural heritage with fellow community members. Events like these play a vital role in keeping traditions alive and fostering a sense of belonging among expatriates living far from home. The festivities provided a platform for individuals to showcase their talents, express their cultural identity, and strengthen bonds within the community, creating a sense of unity and camaraderie.

The participation of popular actor Unni Raja and the presence of esteemed guests added a touch of glamour and recognition to the event, making it a memorable and special occasion for all attendees. Through cultural performances, traditional rituals, and the sharing of delicious food, the community came together to celebrate the essence of Onam and create lasting memories that will continue to resonate with them. The success of the event reflects the strong sense of community and tradition upheld by the expatriate community in Bahrain, showcasing their commitment to preserving their cultural heritage and coming together in joyous celebration.
