Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister of Oman, recently conveyed a message on behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, congratulating him and the people of Brunei on the 40th anniversary of their country’s membership in the United Nations. The message was delivered during a ceremony held as part of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations. In return, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah asked Sayyid Badr to convey his greetings and best wishes to the Sultan of Oman, expressing his hope for further progress and prosperity in the relationship between the two countries.

During the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations, Sayyid Badr also held meetings with several officials from various countries, including Gabrielius Landsbergis, Foreign Minister of Lithuania, and Luminita Odobescu, Foreign Minister of Romania. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for cooperation in areas such as economy, culture, and education. The ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and peaceful means in addressing security challenges.

Sayyid Badr also met with Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), to discuss the humanitarian challenges facing Palestinian refugees. The Sultanate of Oman expressed its continued support for efforts aimed at improving the conditions of refugees and emphasized the importance of collective action to ensure the entry of urgent humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip without obstacles. The UNRWA Commissioner-General praised Oman’s active role in supporting humanitarian issues and relief efforts, highlighting the importance of ongoing efforts to assist Palestinian refugees.

In addition, Sayyid Badr held meetings with officials from Cuba, the Netherlands, Turkey, and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to discuss various aspects of cooperation and partnership. The discussions covered areas such as economic partnership, regional and international peace and security, and efforts to stop escalating military operations in the region. The ministers reiterated their commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts and promoting sustainable development through financial and technical cooperation programs.

Overall, Sayyid Badr’s participation in the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations highlighted Oman’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with other countries and supporting humanitarian initiatives on a global scale. The meetings with officials from various nations underscored the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and collective action in addressing regional and international challenges, such as the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian refugees. Oman’s continued support for peace, stability, and development initiatives reflects its commitment to contributing to positive outcomes in the international community.
