The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in cooperation with Muscat Yacht Club, will be organizing two training courses in open water and flood rescue in the Wilayat of Sur from October 6 to 10, 2024. This initiative is part of the executive programme for Sur, the Arab Tourism Capital for 2024, with the goal of empowering the local community in the tourism sector and workers in tourism establishments to enhance and develop the tourism industry. The training courses will target 20 participants from the local community, with 10 young trainees focusing on rescue skills in Wadi Shab.

The first training course will focus on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills related to rescue operations, specifically in reducing drowning incidents in floodwaters. The young trainees will receive instruction on rescue skills in Wadi Shab, a popular tourist destination in Sur. The programme aims to enhance the capabilities of the local community to respond effectively to emergencies in flood situations, ultimately ensuring the safety of both residents and tourists in the area.

The second training course will concentrate on rescue skills in open water, with 10 young Omani trainees receiving training on how to deal with open water and water currents. The training will take place at Khor Al Batah in Sur, providing participants with hands-on experience and practical skills to handle emergency situations in open water environments. By focusing on open water rescue skills, the programme aims to enhance the readiness and capabilities of trainees to respond effectively to emergencies in the coastal areas of Sur.

The training courses are designed to provide participants with essential skills and knowledge to respond to emergency situations in both floodwaters and open water environments. By empowering local community members and tourism workers with rescue skills, the programme aims to enhance the overall safety and security of Sur as a tourism destination. Additionally, the training courses will contribute to the professional development of participants, equipping them with valuable skills that can be applied in various settings within the tourism industry.

Overall, the collaboration between the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Muscat Yacht Club in organizing these training courses demonstrates a commitment to promoting safety and security in Sur, particularly in high-risk environments such as floodwaters and open water. The programme highlights the importance of capacity-building and continuous training in the tourism sector to ensure the readiness of individuals to respond to emergencies effectively. By investing in the training and development of local community members and tourism workers, Sur is taking proactive steps towards enhancing the tourism industry and establishing itself as a safe and secure destination for visitors.
