Estonia’s Ambassador to the UAE, Maria Belovas, highlighted the significant growth in non-oil bilateral trade between the two countries, which reached $176.3 million in 2023. This marked a 76.2% increase from the previous year, showing a positive trend in trade relations. Belovas expressed optimism for continued growth in 2024, supported by cooperation in strategic sectors.

Belovas also mentioned the expectation of direct flights between the UAE and the Baltic states, which are anticipated to start soon. The Dubai-based flydubai had previously announced cancellations of routes to some Baltic countries, including Tallinn in Estonia, due to delays in aircraft deliveries from Boeing. However, the ambassador remains hopeful that direct flights will resume, providing a new link between Tallinn and Dubai.

The UAE and Estonia share similar goals in digitalization, particularly in areas such as smart mobility and citizen convenience. Estonian companies are actively collaborating with both public and private entities in the UAE to drive digital innovation. Estonia’s first embassy in the region was established five years ago, reflecting the growing ties between the two nations.

In addition to traditional diplomatic relations, Estonia also offers an innovative e-residency program. This program allows individuals from other countries to obtain a digital identity from Estonia, enabling them to start businesses, open bank accounts, and enter into partnerships without physically residing in the country. The e-residency program has been a valuable tool for promoting international business collaboration.

Overall, the outlook for the UAE-Estonia relationship is positive, with continued growth expected in trade, aviation, and digital innovation. The shared goals and ambitions of the two countries in digital transformation present significant opportunities for partnership and collaboration. As bilateral ties strengthen, both nations are poised to benefit from mutual cooperation and shared initiatives in various strategic sectors.

In conclusion, Estonia’s Ambassador to the UAE, Maria Belovas, remains optimistic about the future of the bilateral relationship, expressing confidence in the potential for further growth and cooperation. With a focus on digitalization, trade, and aviation, the UAE and Estonia are well-positioned to build upon their existing ties and foster a strong partnership that benefits both countries. Through innovative programs like e-residency and collaborative initiatives, the two nations are paving the way for a successful and mutually beneficial relationship in the years to come.
