Minister of Commerce Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi recently led a Saudi delegation on a visit to Seoul, with the aim of bolstering trade relations across various economic sectors. The delegation, which included officials from 10 government agencies and 55 business leaders, is set to stay in Seoul until 31 July. The visit is part of the Saudi leadership’s efforts to strengthen economic partnerships with Korea, as well as the ongoing collaboration between the two countries’ business committees.

During a meeting with Korean Prime Minister Dr. Han Duck-soo, Al-Qasabi highlighted the importance of the visit in light of the Saudi leadership’s directives. The meeting also touched upon the progress of negotiations for a free trade agreement between Korea and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Discussions included the potential impact of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the country’s economic and development reforms on fostering new partnership opportunities between the business sectors of both nations.

Al-Qasabi also met with Minister of SMEs and Startups Dr. Oh Young-joo to discuss Korea’s expertise in company development and technology transfer in emerging fields. Additionally, he held talks with Choi Soo-yeon, the founder and CEO of Naver, Korea’s largest internet company. Their discussions focused on Naver’s plans to enter the Saudi market, collaborate on expanding e-commerce in the Kingdom, and establish training programs for Saudi students. These meetings underscore the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships between Saudi Arabia and Korea across various industries.

The Saudi delegation in Seoul comprises representatives from key government agencies such as the ministries of Commerce, Investment, Industry and Mineral Resources, Transport and Logistics (Monsha’at), Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), Saudi Export Development Authority, National Competitiveness Center, Saudi Business Center, and the National Center for Palms and Dates. Additionally, the delegation includes leaders from 55 national companies, demonstrating the breadth and depth of economic engagement between Saudi Arabia and Korea.

The visit to Seoul not only aims to enhance trade relations but also underscores the commitment of both countries to fostering innovation and knowledge exchange in emerging technologies. By leveraging each other’s strengths and expertise, Saudi Arabia and Korea can create new opportunities for collaboration and investment. The Saudi delegation’s engagements with Korean counterparts highlight the potential for joint initiatives that can drive economic growth and prosperity for both nations.

In conclusion, the visit of Minister of Commerce Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi and the Saudi delegation to Seoul represents a significant step towards strengthening trade relations between Saudi Arabia and Korea. By facilitating discussions on free trade agreements, economic reforms, and technology transfer, both countries are poised to unlock new opportunities for partnership and collaboration. Through these engagements, Saudi Arabia and Korea are laying the foundation for a robust and mutually beneficial economic relationship that can drive innovation, growth, and prosperity for years to come.
