Chief of KSrelief calls for collaborative effort to tackle Sudan’s humanitarian crisis

The urgent need for collective action to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan was emphasized by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, the Royal Court Advisor and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), during a meeting at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. The meeting, titled “The Cost of Inaction: Urgent and Collective Support to Scale Up the Humanitarian Response in Sudan and the Region,” shed light on the challenges faced by the Sudanese people. Dr. Al Rabeeah highlighted the ongoing commitment of Saudi Arabia to providing support to Sudan, noting that over $3 billion has been provided, including $132 million in humanitarian aid. He also mentioned the Jeddah Declaration and the role of the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) Group in providing relief, particularly in Darfur.

Despite the recent escalation of violence, Saudi Arabia has implemented more than 70 humanitarian projects since April 2023 at a cost exceeding $73 million in collaboration with UN organizations and humanitarian partners. Additionally, Dr. Al Rabeeah outlined the air and sea relief missions that have been funded by government and public donations to address urgent needs in Sudan. He called on the international humanitarian community to prioritize providing unrestricted humanitarian aid to conflict-affected areas and to transcend political divisions in order to effectively address the crisis. Dr. Al Rabeeah reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to achieving stability and security for Sudan and its people.

The meeting in New York City highlighted the need for urgent and collective action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Dr. Al Rabeeah highlighted the role of Saudi Arabia in providing support to Sudan, including the implementation of humanitarian projects and relief missions funded by government and public donations. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to providing ongoing support to Sudan and its people.

Overall, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah’s message at the meeting at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City underscored the urgent need for global support and collective action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
