England’s Declan Rice scored the first goal under new interim boss Lee Carsley in their 2-0 win against Ireland. Carsley, who took over after Gareth Southgate’s departure, is focused on an attacking style of play. Unlike Southgate’s cautious approach, Carsley aims to play with more freedom and creativity. This was evident in England’s dominant performance in their first game under Carsley, creating more ‘big chances’ and shots than in previous matches. Rice showcased this new freedom by scoring the opener and assisting in another goal.

Rice praised Carsley for his refreshing approach and commitment to allowing players to play without restrictions. He highlighted the positive impact Carsley had on the team in terms of confidence and playing style. Despite the success under Southgate, the team was missing a trophy, which Carsley is determined to change. His emphasis on possession from the back and encouraging players like Jack Grealish to express themselves has made a significant difference in the team’s performance.

Grealish, who was left out of the Euro squad, shone under Carsley’s management, playing a pivotal role in the team’s victory. Similarly, Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, who had limited playing time at the Euros, showed impressive attacking prowess under Carsley’s guidance. The players appreciated the freedom and expression granted to them by the new manager, allowing them to showcase their abilities with confidence and flair on the field.

Despite criticism for not singing the national anthem, Carsley’s focus is on delivering positive results on the pitch for England. If he can continue to lead the team to success, his chances of securing the permanent England manager position will only increase. Eddie Howe remains the bookmakers’ favorite for the job, but Carsley’s stock is rising with each impressive performance from the team under his leadership. The upcoming Nations League tie against Finland will be another opportunity for Carsley to prove his capabilities as a manager and guide England to victory.
