The University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) recently hosted this year’s IEEE Day celebration on campus, bringing together aspiring engineers, industry professionals, and thought leaders in the field. The event, organized by student volunteers from UTB’s College of Engineering in collaboration with IEEE Bahrain student branches, featured a robotics challenge, keynote speeches, and a project presentation competition, all aimed at promoting a culture of innovation and collaboration. Through events like IEEE Day, UTB continues to solidify its position as a leading institution in engineering education and a hub for innovation in Bahrain.

The celebration concluded with an awards ceremony, where top-performing teams were recognized for their outstanding achievements. Bahrain Polytechnic took the first prize in the project presentation category, while UTB secured the second spot. In the robotics challenge, UTB emerged as the winner, with the American University of Bahrain claiming the second position. The event saw participation from various universities, industry VIPs, experts, media partners, and UTB alumni, showcasing a strong support for the advancement of engineering excellence.

The robotics challenge was a highlight of the event, where budding engineers worked together to solve a given task, showcasing their creativity, problem-solving skills, and technical prowess. Dr. Haitham Alqahtani, Vice President for Academic Affairs at UTB, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the significance of IEEE Day as a global celebration of the engineers and technologists shaping the world. He commended the student volunteers for their efforts in organizing the event and underscored the importance of providing students with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the future of engineering.

Dr. Alqahtani also highlighted the impactful initiatives of IEEE Bahrain Section, including the upcoming International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Applied Sciences (ICETAS), in collaboration with UTB. The event featured keynote speakers who shared insights with the next generation of engineers, helping them envision their role in shaping the future. Dr. Adel Abdulla shared the rich history of IEEE, marking 140 years of advancing engineering excellence and outlining the benefits of IEEE membership, including access to training, internships, scholarships, career opportunities, and entrepreneurial support.

Engr. Kai-Uwe Ernst Miethig, Chair of the IEEE SIGHT Group, discussed the achievements of the IEEE Bahrain section and encouraged members to leverage their benefits to contribute to national and global economic sustainability. He praised UTB for having the highest number of IEEE members among universities in Bahrain. The event also featured engineering project presentations by students from various universities, showcasing innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges. These presentations provided a platform for collaboration and idea exchange, allowing students to broaden their perspectives and learn from each other’s approaches.
