Bahrain has recently made significant strides in digital transformation, now ranking third among Arab nations and 41st globally in the 2024 Global Digitalisation Index (GDI). This index, released by Huawei Technologies, evaluates the progress of digital transformation in 77 countries based on criteria such as digital infrastructure, cloud computing, and sustainable energy. The Kingdom earned 44.7 points in the report, positioning itself behind only the UAE and Saudi Arabia in the Arab world.

The GDI classifies countries into three tiers – ‘Frontrunners,’ ‘Adopters,’ and ‘Starters’ – based on their maturity in the ICT sector and overall economic development. Bahrain’s impressive ranking reflects its commitment to embracing digital technologies and enhancing its ICT sector. This demonstrates the Kingdom’s dedication to staying at the forefront of the digital revolution and leveraging digital solutions to drive economic growth and innovation.

The report’s comprehensive coverage, reaching 93% of the global economy and 80% of the world’s population, underscores the global trend towards digitalisation. Leading countries in the GDI include the US, Singapore, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark, highlighting the importance of digital transformation in driving economic competitiveness and fostering technological advancement on a global scale.

Bahrain’s strong performance in the GDI is a testament to the initiatives and policies implemented to promote digital innovation and enhance the ICT sector. By investing in digital infrastructure, fostering a conducive environment for startups and technology companies, and prioritizing sustainable energy solutions, Bahrain has positioned itself as a regional leader in digital transformation. This recognition will likely attract further investment and collaboration opportunities in the digital space, paving the way for continued growth and innovation in the Kingdom.

As digital transformation continues to gain momentum globally, Bahrain’s progress in this field is commendable and sets a positive example for other countries looking to enhance their ICT sectors and leverage digital technologies for economic development. By prioritizing digitalisation and embracing new technologies, Bahrain is well-positioned to capitalize on the opportunities presented by the digital economy and drive sustained growth and prosperity in the years to come.

In conclusion, Bahrain’s impressive ranking in the 2024 Global Digitalisation Index highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to embracing digital transformation and enhancing its ICT sector. By investing in digital infrastructure, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable energy solutions, Bahrain has positioned itself as a regional leader in digital innovation. This recognition will likely attract further investment and collaboration opportunities, driving continued growth and innovation in the Kingdom’s digital economy.
