The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) have come together to launch a new initiative aimed at providing a dedicated workspace for non-resident diplomatic missions at the LMRA headquarters in Manama. The goal of this initiative is to simplify regulatory processes for Bahraini businesses and residents, improve the verification of workers’ documentation, and offer foreign communities access to consular services in one central location.

The initiative was inaugurated with officials from the Kenyan Embassy in Kuwait meeting with the Kenyan expatriate community in Bahrain. The LMRA plans to host more non-resident consulates and embassies in the future to further improve the services offered. The Chief Executive Officer of the LMRA, Nibras Mohammed Talib, emphasized the importance of this project in enhancing collaboration with foreign embassies and facilitating various consular transactions for Bahraini businesses and residents.

Talib praised the coordination between the ministries involved in the initiative, highlighting the team spirit within the Bahraini government. He also stressed that this effort strengthens Bahrain’s labor market environment and its commitment to combating human trafficking, ultimately contributing to long-term stability. The initiative addresses challenges faced by business owners and expatriate workers, particularly regarding the renewal of official documents and work permits.

Dr. Issa Nasser Al Nuaimi, the Undersecretary for Consular and Administrative Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing Bahrain’s role as a leader in promoting peaceful diplomacy and international cooperation against human trafficking. He commended the initiative’s objectives of fostering stronger consular cooperation and mutual understanding between countries, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals. Al Nuaimi noted the positive response from non-resident embassies interested in utilizing the LMRA’s facilities for consular procedures.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to enhancing consular services and working closely with relevant ministries and entities in Bahrain to develop more initiatives like this in the future. The absence of resident embassies in Bahrain often leads to delays in consular processes, affecting the legal status of expatriates in the Kingdom. This initiative aims to provide foreign communities without permanent diplomatic representation with access to essential consular services, including passport renewals, official document issuance, and legal assistance during emergencies. By streamlining these processes, the initiative seeks to improve the overall experience for foreign residents in Bahrain.
