Moving to a new country can be a daunting experience, especially when it comes to finding a suitable school for your children. Jeanette Santana, a Filipino expat living in Dubai for 14 years, recently faced this challenge when convincing her daughter to join her in the UAE. After years of persuasion, her daughter finally agreed and started her first day of school this year at Gems Founders School – Al Barsha. This decision was made easier by the numerous educational opportunities that Dubai has to offer, including reputable schools and branches of renowned international universities.

For Jancsey Alexa Camins, Jeanette’s daughter, the move to Dubai meant a big change from her home in Manila. Starting Year 10 at a new school comes with feelings of anxiety and excitement, but the prospect of attending a school with a good reputation and access to quality education made the decision worthwhile. Like many parents, Jeanette spent nearly a year researching schools, reading reviews, and seeking recommendations from colleagues and the local community to ensure a smooth transition for her daughter. Despite facing some challenges with documentation from the Philippines, the process was completed within a couple of months.

Atiq ur Rehman and his family also recently relocated to Dubai from Islamabad in search of better opportunities and a higher quality of life. The Pakistani expat sees this move as a chance to meet new people, experience a different culture, and learn in a fresh environment. Despite the mix of apprehension and excitement that comes with starting a new school in a new country, Atiq has been mentally preparing his son for the transition as he enters Year 4 at Gems Founders School. Choosing a reputable school with a ‘Very Good’ rating and affordability was a priority for Atiq, ensuring a smooth transition for his son.

Eiza Waheed, a student transitioning from an Indian curriculum school to a British curriculum school, also experienced a sense of fresh start and nerves on her first day. The 15-year-old made the switch to pursue A-levels and is looking forward to settling in, meeting new people, and getting used to the routine at her new school. Starting at a new school means trying new things and reinventing oneself, a challenge that Eiza is ready to embrace.

Moving to a new country and starting at a new school can be a significant change for both parents and children. However, with careful research, preparation, and a positive outlook, families like Jeanette’s, Atiq’s, and Eiza’s can ensure a smooth transition and a successful start to the academic year. Dubai’s diverse educational landscape and opportunities for personal and academic growth make it an attractive destination for expat families looking to provide their children with a high-quality education and a promising future. As Jeanette, Atiq, and Eiza navigate their new school experiences, they are looking forward to the opportunities for growth and success that Dubai has to offer.
