The Minister of Commerce and Industry in Doha, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al-Thani, has recently taken actions to impose final anti-dumping duties on certain types of automotive batteries originating from the Republic of Korea and the Republic of India. These decisions were made in an effort to support the competitiveness of national products and to combat harmful practices in international trade. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced these decisions on Tuesday, highlighting the importance of protecting local industries from unfair competition.

Decision No. 21 of 2024, issued by HE Minister of Commerce and Industry, imposes final anti-dumping duties on imports of electrical storage category (automotive batteries) with a capacity ranging from 35 to 115 amperes, originating from the Republic of Korea. This move is aimed at leveling the playing field for local producers and preventing the influx of cheap imports that could undermine the domestic market. Decision No. 22 of 2024, on the other hand, imposes final anti-dumping duties on imports of automotive batteries with a capacity ranging from 32 to 225 amperes, originating from or exported from the Republic of India.

The decisions taken by HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al-Thani reflect the government’s commitment to protecting national industries and promoting fair trade practices. By imposing anti-dumping duties on certain types of automotive batteries, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is sending a strong message to importers and exporters engaging in unfair trade practices. These actions aim to create a level playing field for local producers and to ensure that they can compete fairly in the global market.

The imposition of final anti-dumping duties on automotive batteries from the Republic of Korea and the Republic of India is expected to have a positive impact on the local industry in Qatar. By restricting the influx of cheap imports that may harm domestic producers, the government is taking proactive steps to safeguard national interests and promote economic growth. These decisions will not only protect local businesses but also contribute to the overall development of the industrial sector in the country.

In light of the global economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial for governments to implement measures that support local industries and ensure their sustainability. The decisions made by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Doha to impose anti-dumping duties on certain types of automotive batteries are in line with this goal. By prioritizing the interests of national producers and promoting fair competition, the government is taking proactive steps to strengthen the resilience of the local economy and foster a conducive environment for sustainable growth.

Overall, the recent decisions taken by HE Minister of Commerce and Industry in Qatar to impose final anti-dumping duties on imports of automotive batteries from the Republic of Korea and the Republic of India underscore the government’s commitment to protecting national industries and promoting fair trade practices. These actions are expected to have a positive impact on the local economy by safeguarding domestic producers from unfair competition and fostering a conducive environment for sustainable growth. As the global economy continues to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, such measures are vital for ensuring the long-term competitiveness and resilience of national industries in Qatar.
