The opening session of the United Nations General Assembly at its 79th session saw the participation of Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who delivered a speech addressing the ongoing crisis in Palestine. The Amir condemned the aggression being faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza, calling it a crime of genocide. He criticized the international community’s failure to intervene and stop the ongoing brutal war, highlighting the dire consequences of ignoring a just solution.

The Amir emphasized the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue with a just solution, stating that the occupation has taken the form of an apartheid system in the twenty-first century. He stressed that the Palestinian cause will remain a lingering issue until the occupation ends or the Palestinian people disappear. The ongoing Israeli aggression has undermined international legitimacy and inflicted serious damage on the credibility of post-World War II concepts.

The State of Qatar has been actively involved in mediation efforts to stop the aggression on Gaza and secure the release of prisoners and detainees. Despite facing challenges and obstruction attempts, Qatar will continue its efforts to resolve disputes through peaceful means. The country has provided humanitarian support to the civilian population in Gaza and has worked towards a permanent ceasefire and a just solution in accordance with international resolutions.

The Amir also addressed the war between Russia and Ukraine, calling for a peaceful solution based on the provisions of the United Nations Charter and international law. Qatar has played a role in mediating a prisoner swap between the United States and Venezuela and reuniting Ukrainian children with their families. The State of Qatar remains committed to working with international partners to consolidate peace, security, sustainable development, human rights, and the rule of law.

In conclusion, the Amir’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue with a just solution, and the need for peaceful solutions to global conflicts. Qatar’s active role in mediation and humanitarian efforts demonstrates its commitment to addressing global challenges and working towards a better future for all.
