Ambassador says Amir’s visit marks the start of a new era in Qatar-Sweden relations

The recent visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Sweden has strengthened the bilateral relations between Qatar and Sweden, according to Swedish Ambassador to Qatar H E Gautam Bhattacharyya. The visit resulted in the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and the establishment of the Qatar-Sweden Business Council. These agreements pave the way for increased trade, investment, and collaboration in key areas such as innovation, digitalization, and sustainability. Ambassador Bhattacharyya highlighted the importance of the visit in bringing the Qatari and Swedish people closer together for the betterment of humanity.

One of the major decisions taken during the visit was the establishment of the Qatar-Sweden Business Council, which aims to develop and advance business relations between the two countries. Additionally, commercial agreements were signed between Swedish companies like Saab and their Qatari counterparts. Ambassador Bhattacharyya stated that a joint Swedish-Qatari Business Council will be formed, with the first meeting expected to take place in Doha in early 2025. This initiative signals an increased focus on investments between Qatar and Sweden.

Several other agreements were also signed during H H the Amir’s visit to Sweden. These include an MoU between Swedish Incubators and Science Parks and the Qatar Research Development and Innovation Council, focusing on collaboration in innovative start-ups. Another MoU was established between the Swedish Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Social Development and Family in Qatar, covering various topics related to social welfare systems. Additionally, an MoU was signed between the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) and the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressing peace, conflict resolution, and mediation.

The visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Sweden has opened a new chapter in the already good relations between Qatar and Sweden. The successful trip has laid the foundation for increased collaborations and high-level bilateral visits in the coming years.
