Adel Al-Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Member, and Climate Envoy, recently attended the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During his time at the conference, Al-Jubeir participated in several high-level meetings with key international figures to discuss climate cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations. One of the important meetings he had was with Bader Al-Dafa, Qatari Foreign Minister’s Climate Envoy, where they reviewed relations between the two countries and discussed joint efforts to preserve the environment and combat climate change.

Al-Jubeir also met with Gabriela Sommerfeld, Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, as well as Albert Ramdin, Suriname’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss enhancing bilateral ties and international developments of mutual interest. Furthermore, he engaged in a separate meeting with Peter Agofaka, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Solomon Islands, to address regional and international issues of shared concern. These meetings are crucial in strengthening relationships between countries and working towards common goals in addressing global challenges.

In addition to his meetings with government officials, Al-Jubeir also held discussions with key figures from international organizations. He met with Agoshi Daniels, Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration, as well as Prince Jimmy de Bourbon, the Netherlands’ Climate Envoy, to review Saudi Arabia’s climate efforts. These discussions highlight the importance of collaboration between countries and organizations in addressing climate change and environmental issues.

During his talks with Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, Al-Jubeir emphasized Saudi Arabia’s climate change initiatives. He also met with Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, to focus on joint cooperation in addressing desertification and climate challenges globally. These discussions demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s commitment to addressing environmental issues on a global scale and working towards sustainable solutions.

Overall, Al-Jubeir’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly highlighted the importance of international cooperation in addressing climate change and environmental challenges. By engaging in high-level meetings with government officials and representatives from international organizations, Saudi Arabia is demonstrating its commitment to working towards a more sustainable future. Through these discussions, important partnerships and collaborations are formed, paving the way for collective action in combating climate change and protecting the environment for future generations.
