The Wilayat of Bidiya in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate is currently hosting the NASA Space Applications Hackathon, organized by the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Ibra Branch. The event, which began on Saturday and is themed “The Sun Touches Everything,” is set to run for two days. Over 75 teams from various educational institutions, schools, researchers, academics, community groups, and individuals with ideas related to solving Earth and space problems are participating in this global event, now in its second edition in Oman.

Mahmoud bin Yahya Al Dhahli, Governor of North Al Sharqiyah, emphasized the significance of hosting the hackathon for the second consecutive year. This initiative aligns with national priorities in space exploration and complements the vision of “Oman 2040.” The event aims to raise awareness and interest in space sciences, as well as encourage investment in the sector. By hosting this event, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate aims to position itself as a hub for technological innovation and scientific research. The event also seeks to foster collaboration between academic and industrial institutions at both local and international levels.

The ultimate goal of hosting the NASA Space Applications Hackathon is to achieve excellence in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This, in turn, will contribute to the overall development of the region and help build sustainable partnerships that support the vision of “Oman 2040.” By bringing together a diverse group of participants, the event aims to spark creative solutions to existing challenges in both Earth and space-related fields. This collaborative effort is a testament to Oman’s commitment to advancing knowledge and technology in the field of space exploration.

The event serves as a platform for students, researchers, academics, and community stakeholders to come together and exchange ideas for addressing pressing issues in space and Earth sciences. It provides a unique opportunity for participants to showcase their innovative solutions and potentially collaborate on projects that could have a lasting impact on the region’s development. By emphasizing the importance of investing in space sciences and technology, the NASA Space Applications Hackathon is helping to shape the future of Oman’s scientific landscape.

As the hackathon continues to gain momentum, it is expected to inspire a new generation of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs to pursue opportunities in space exploration. By fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, the event is creating a supportive environment for participants to explore their potential and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field. With a focus on problem-solving and creative thinking, the hackathon is a testament to Oman’s commitment to building a sustainable future through science and technology.
