At least 12 people have been injured in Kharkiv due to Russian shelling, with two people killed in the Ukrainian village of Rig, including a 10-year-old boy buried under rubble. The airstrike in Kharkiv resulted in two glider munitions being launched at the city, causing injuries and damage to residential areas. One of the munitions hit a business in the west of the city, while the other exploded in a residential area in the north, injuring several people. A woman with an acute stress reaction also sought medical attention following the attack.

The village of Rig in the Donetsk region was hit by a Russian shelling, resulting in two deaths and two injuries. Authorities reported that an Iskander missile struck a private house in the village, burying a 10-year-old boy under rubble and killing his parents. Rescue teams were able to recover the bodies of the boy’s parents, while the boy is being treated for his injuries in hospital. The alarming escalation in violence highlights the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, leading to devastating consequences for civilians caught in the crossfire.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of the upcoming Peace Summit in Switzerland, scheduled for June. Zelenskyy believes that the summit presents an opportunity to restore the full effectiveness of the UN Charter and ensure protection for every nation. The absence of Russia, which invaded Ukraine over two years ago, from the summit is a significant factor in the efforts to address the conflict through diplomatic means. Countries like Austria, Albania, Chile, and Mozambique have confirmed their participation in the summit, indicating international support for resolving the crisis.

The attacks in Kharkiv and Rig underscore the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. The indiscriminate shelling by Russian forces has resulted in civilian casualties and widespread destruction, causing immense suffering for innocent people. The international community must come together to condemn such actions and support efforts to bring about a ceasefire and diplomatic negotiations to end the violence. The tragic death of the 10-year-old boy and his parents serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the human cost of war and the importance of finding a lasting solution to the conflict.

The situation in Ukraine remains volatile, with continued clashes between Russian and Ukrainian forces in various regions. The recent attacks in Kharkiv and Rig have further escalated tensions, prompting calls for immediate action to prevent further loss of life. The upcoming Peace Summit in Switzerland offers a glimmer of hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, with world leaders coming together to address the crisis. The participation of key nations in the summit signals a united front against aggression and a commitment to upholding international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

As the world watches the situation in Ukraine unfold, it is essential for global leaders to prioritize diplomacy and dialogue to end the violence and restore peace in the region. The suffering of innocent civilians, including children like the 10-year-old boy in Rig, must not be in vain, and concerted efforts must be made to ensure the protection of vulnerable populations. The upcoming Peace Summit represents a critical opportunity to chart a path towards reconciliation and security for all nations involved. By working together towards a peaceful resolution, the international community can help bring an end to the conflict and prevent further loss of life in Ukraine.
