A recent inspection campaign conducted by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Bahrain has shown that 83% of plastic bags in local markets meet the requirements for wildlife protection. The campaign, which involved inspections of 502 stores and the collection of 551 samples, aimed to ensure adherence to Decision No. 14 of 2022. This decision prohibits the production, import, or sale of single-use plastic bags below 35 microns to reduce environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce highlighted its commitment to environmental protection through an official Instagram post, emphasizing its role in securing an environment conducive to sustainable development. The campaign is in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, which aims to protect natural spaces, wildlife, and reduce environmental pollution. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that local markets comply with regulations regarding single-use plastic bags.

Decision No. 14 of 2022, which went into effect on September 18, 2022, has been a key focus of the ministry’s efforts to protect the environment and implement the government’s action plan for sustainable development. By prohibiting the production, import, and sale of thin plastic bags, the decision aims to mitigate the risks posed by plastic waste to Bahrain’s wildlife. Previous inspection campaigns have also been conducted to enforce regulations related to single-use plastic bags.

The results of the recent inspection campaign have shown that while the majority of plastic bags in local markets comply with wildlife protection requirements, there is still room for improvement. Approximately 17% of the samples collected did not meet the specified requirements, indicating the need for continued monitoring and enforcement of regulations. It is essential to ensure that all businesses in Bahrain adhere to the ban on thin plastic bags to protect the environment and wildlife.

The ministry’s efforts to enforce regulations on plastic bags are crucial in addressing the environmental challenges faced by Bahrain. By working towards reducing plastic pollution and protecting wildlife, the government is taking proactive steps to create a more sustainable future for the country. The continued implementation of Decision No. 14 of 2022 and similar initiatives will be instrumental in safeguarding Bahrain’s natural spaces and promoting responsible environmental practices.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce’s recent inspection campaign on plastic bags in local markets demonstrates the government’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. By ensuring compliance with regulations prohibiting thin plastic bags, Bahrain is taking important steps to reduce plastic pollution and protect wildlife. Continued efforts in this direction will be essential in securing a clean and healthy environment for future generations.
