The Southern Governorate Municipality in Manama has been cracking down on illegal buildings in the region, with 57 structures being demolished in the first half of 2024. The municipality has been conducting regular inspections to identify violations of building codes, with a total of 155 structures found to be in violation. Most of these violations were concentrated in the areas of Nuwaidrat and Hawrat Sanad.

In addition to the demolitions, the municipality also took action against 155 instances of street encroachment to ensure compliance with regulations governing public spaces. The municipality also demolished six abandoned and dilapidated houses in various residential blocks, which posed a danger to passersby and affected the visual landscape of the neighborhoods.

The Southern Governorate Municipality is committed to enforcing the Building Regulations Law No. (13) of 1977, which requires obtaining necessary permits for all construction projects. Many of the demolished buildings were found to have been constructed without permits, encroaching on public property and posing safety risks to residents. The municipality is urging property owners and engineering firms to adhere to the technical specifications and standards set by the Urban Planning and Development Authority when preparing construction plans to ensure safety and aesthetic appeal of residential areas.

Residents are encouraged to obtain necessary permits for all construction, demolition, restoration, fencing, and related activities. The municipality oversees all stages of construction to ensure compliance with approved plans and safeguard the safety of residents, aiming to prevent haphazard construction that alters the urban and cultural character of the region. By following regulations and obtaining permits, property owners can contribute to maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the Southern Governorate.

Overall, the Southern Governorate Municipality in Manama has been taking strict measures to enforce building regulations and maintain the aesthetic appeal of the region. By demolishing illegal structures, taking action against street encroachment, and demolishing abandoned houses, the municipality is working to ensure the safety and visual appeal of residential areas. Property owners and engineering firms are urged to comply with regulations and obtain necessary permits to prevent haphazard construction that can alter the urban and cultural character of the region. Residents are encouraged to follow proper procedures for all construction activities to contribute to the overall appearance of the Southern Governorate.
