In the academic year 2024-2025, a total of 32,625 seats have been offered to eligible students in government and private higher education institutions in Oman. These seats include scholarships offered by the government for study locally and abroad, as well as grants provided by private sector establishments and friendly countries. Ahmed Mohammed Al Azri, Director General of the Higher Education Admission Centre at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, stated that 20,449 seats are available in government higher education institutions, while 11,573 seats are offered through local scholarships in private institutions in the Sultanate of Oman. Additionally, there are 603 seats available for external scholarships to study abroad.

New study programmes have been introduced as part of scholarships both locally and internationally in the Sultanate of Oman. The programmes cover various specializations such as artificial intelligence (AI), sustainable systems engineering, cybersecurity, emergency medical services, visual communication design, port management and sustainable shipping, and business administration with sub-specializations in International Business and e-business. The period for amending specializations will commence on July 24, 2024, and conclude on August 4, 2024, at 2:30 pm.

This initiative aims to provide more opportunities for Omani students to pursue higher education in diverse fields and equip them with the skills needed for the job market. The scholarships and grants offered not only cover tuition fees but also provide support for living expenses, research projects, internships, and other related activities. Through these programs, the government seeks to enhance the knowledge and expertise of its citizens, contributing to the overall development and progress of the country.

The focus on emerging fields such as AI, sustainable systems engineering, and cybersecurity reflects the growing importance of these areas in the global economy. By offering scholarships in such specializations, Oman aims to stay abreast of technological advancements and prepare its workforce for the future. Initiatives like these also help in bridging the skills gap and ensuring that the education system in the country remains relevant and competitive.

Students interested in availing of these scholarships and grants are encouraged to explore the various study programmes available and choose a specialization that aligns with their career goals and aspirations. The government, along with private sector establishments and friendly countries, is committed to supporting Omani students in their educational pursuits and ensuring that they have access to quality higher education opportunities both locally and internationally.

In conclusion, the increase in the number of seats offered for scholarships and grants in the academic year 2024-2025 demonstrates Oman’s commitment to investing in the education and development of its youth. By providing opportunities in cutting-edge fields and supporting students through various programmes, the country is paving the way for a skilled workforce that can thrive in the digital age. The impact of these initiatives is expected to be far-reaching, benefiting not just the students themselves but also the economy and society as a whole.
